Regular screening is one of the most powerful
weapons for preventing colon malignancy. If polyps are detected during colon health screening, they can be removed before they have the chance to turn into cancer.
Screening can also result in early detection of cancer, when it’s still smaller, easier to treat, with a much better outcome towards cure.
Less than one-third of people who should be screened actually do so — but screening does save lives, and of course, is far easier than coping with disease. So, if you’re above 40, talk to your doctor about the suitable tests and go for it as often as recommended.
Why a colonoscopy is important and is recommended for Colon Cancer Detection?
Bowel Cancer is on the second place of all cancers affecting Men and Women. Its Prevention is an important challenge for Physicians. We know that the Cancer develops from a Polyp; a small bud is growing and degenerating into Cancer within 5-10 years. These Polyps are located on the inner layer of the hose-shaped Bowel and are easily accessible in its cavity. Therefore we use a device flexible like a snake with a camera at the top, giving us details of the inner bowel surface with 100-fold magnification. By using additional probes, a detected polyp can be removed and the development into Cancer avoided.
Why the History taking is so important in Proctology?
When we ask you for the symptoms of the anal or bowel problem we get already a lot of information, which leads us to the disease. The quality, the intensity , the time of occurrence and the duration of pain; the color and the amount of blood, and the circumstances when seen; swelling and itching; all these descriptions are important. Additionally the defecation is important, constipation or diarrhea, the structure of the stool.
Pain and Blood – as leading symptoms
Pain is an advice of an acute disease. Permanently enduring it occurs with an abscess, with Analthrombosis or an incarceration of a Prolaps. During and after bowel movement it’s typical for an Analfissure.
Blood is advising us the source of bleeding. If it is embracing or seen with the stool it comes from the central bowel parts. Dropping during bowel movements Hemorrhoids are the most reason and seen as traces on the tissue after bowel movements, Analfissure or Analthrombosis will be the reason
What is an irritable Bowel Syndrome?
This name describes all situations of recurring diarrhea or constipation, accompanied with cramps; we don’t find another explanation for these symptoms easily. As we know, hypersensitivity to food can be the reason, as food “Allergies” are, and an imbalance of healthy germs in the Bowel as well. Furthermore a deficiency in digestive Enzymes, deficiency in balanced food and drinks, as well as stress can cause these symptoms. Important is a comprehensive evaluation of all factors working on the bowel.
The special screening recommendations help to find a solution.
What do the different proctological investigations mean?
That is the investigation of the lower rectum and the anal canal by feeling with one finger, to detect swellings, abnormal growth and to evaluate the Prostate.
That is the endoscopic investigation of the lower Rectum and the anal canal by visual inspection, mainly used to evaluate the Hemorrhoids.
That is a complex 2-phase endoscopic investigation of the anal canal, the rectum and the Sigmoid, the s-shaped second lowest part of the bowel. Additional to the above mentioned investigation we search for inflammation and Polyps in the inspected bowel parts.
This is a save endoscopic investigation of the whole Bowel. A flexible instrument with a camera will pass all bowel parts until the end of the small intestine. The structure of the bowel is seen with multiple magnifications. Small changings, polyps, bulging and inflammations are detected. A Polyp will be completely removed to be investigated under the Microscope and his further growth and degeneration into cancer is avoided.
This investigation needs a bowel cleansing one day before. During the first consultation we advise how proper to perform the cleansing process.
The Colonoscopy is performed under sterile, clean and save conditions in a Hospital. The examination is recorded and in special situations pictures are taken. A supervising Anesthetist assures a deep and save sedation. You will meet the Anesthetist in advance to assure a smooth and convenient process.
The results of the colonoscopy are discussed instantly after your recovery from sedation with the help of the taken Video or Pictures. In case of a Biopsy taken, the suspicion will be discussed too, but the final result takes some days.
